Bittersweet Blog

May 17, 2010

Hey everyone! I’ve been flooded with questions about the operation as well as prices for 2010. I decided I should start a blog section to keep everyone up to date on the happenings. I will also use this as a platform to post photos and what not so keep posted…

Welcome

July 22, 2009

Welcome to the Bittersweet Hops website, your home for the freshest hops on Earth!  The farm is located in North Central Iowa.  Here in Iowa we have taken pride in our corn for years.  In 2008, while home from college for the summer, I was driving and noticing how plentiful everyone’s gardens were.  That’s when I realized that there is something magical about the soil and climate of Iowa.  Having a great passion for beer, quality beer that is, I decided to give back to the cause I felt nearest and dearest to my heart.  Some people help with poverty, others with disease and illness, me, my cause is beer.

In 2009 I bought 7 acres of farmland from my parents in Mason City, Iowa.  People said I was crazy, but everyone has been supportive so far.  Currently, I have 8 plants in the ground.  By spring 2010 I plan on having 5000+ plants down and ready for harvest by fall 2010.  It is projected that full production could be as soon as fall 2011.  Full production for my farm is upwards of five tons of dried hops!

I am willing to do anything and everything possible to cater to the needs of the average homebrewer up to commercial craft-brew facilities, sorry Anhueser Busch, you will never touch these hops!  Bittersweet Hops is unlike any other hops farm out there.  Our hops plants have been known to grow 25 feet high and come back to the ground and continue growing.  Ask the Pacific farmers if their plants grow like that.

I brew, and most of my friends brew.  I assure you that we will not sell any hops that we would not brew with ourselves.  Only the highest quality hops will ever leave the farm.  With that being said I invite you to try our hops and let us know what you think.

Beer, It’s not just for breakfast anymore!
